A
warm and generous man, George Antuna
really attracted the kids with his
Native American chants, which he
introduced with silly lyrics, all
about Minnie and Mickey Mouse, Pluto
and Dumbo, and even Sponge Bob.
He
talked about his life, his growing
awareness of the importance of his
Native American heritage, opening up
about his own trials and failures
and ultimately his happiness and
personal successes. And it's
just what the kids needed -- they
were drawn to him and his honesty,
crowding close under the weak shade
of a large tree in the hot summer
afternoon.
It
was a remarkable afternoon of
sharing and laughter.
George's
participation in the
Kaleidoscope Youth Program
"Visiting
Artist Series" was generously
funded by a grant from the
Colorado Council on the Arts.
